Note: If the project will require space and/or facilities not currently available or significant investment in existing space, additional information should be provided to the department chair and college RAD prior to proposal submission. Acceptance of funding may be contingent on CSU Facilities approval for the additional space request.

Note: Fabrication expenses must be specifically identified in the budget for this proposal, in accordance with University and sponsor guidance. A separate account is set up at the time of award for fabrication expenses.

A deliverable is a tangible or intangible object that is created with the intent to be delivered to a customer upon completion. IDC applies.

DEFINITIONS – Applied Research: designed to solve practical problems of the modern world, rather than to acquire knowledge for knowledge’s sake. One might say that the goal of the applied scientist is to improve the human condition. Basic Research: (aka fundamental or pure) is driven by a scientist’s curiosity or interest in a scientific question. The main motivation is to expand human knowledge, not to create or invent something. There is no obvious commercial value to the discoveries that result from basic research. Developmental Research: (aka experimental development) is creative and systematic work, drawing on knowledge gained from research and practical experience, which is directed at producing new products or processes or improving existing products or processes. Like research, experimental development will result in gaining additional knowledge.
