If an outside entity will be programmatically and financially responsible for completing part of a project’s scope of work, they will likely be a subrecipient, and CSU will need to issue a subaward agreement.

Enter details for key budget categories, including personnel effort, equipment, travel, participant support, materials & supplies, publication costs, consulting fees, and GRA tuition. This information will be used to generate an accurate and detailed budget in KR PD.

Note: If the project will require space and/or facilities not currently available or significant investment in existing space, additional information should be provided to the department chair and college RAD prior to proposal submission. Acceptance of funding may be contingent on CSU Facilities approval for the additional space request.

DEFINITIONS – Applied Research: designed to solve practical problems of the modern world, rather than to acquire knowledge for knowledge’s sake. One might say that the goal of the applied scientist is to improve the human condition. Basic Research: (aka fundamental or pure) is driven by a scientist’s curiosity or interest in a scientific question. The main motivation is to expand human knowledge, not to create or invent something. There is no obvious commercial value to the discoveries that result from basic research. Developmental Research: (aka experimental development) is creative and systematic work, drawing on knowledge gained from research and practical experience, which is directed at producing new products or processes or improving existing products or processes. Like research, experimental development will result in gaining additional knowledge.
